Avoid dangerous gas leaks. After an earthquake, you may have a gas leak due to a shift in the ground or a broken pipe. You will either be able to smell the gas or you will see that your meter is running faster than usual. If this occurs, you will want to shut off the gas using an emergency gas shut-off wrench that is spark-resistant. Sparks created in the presence of leaking gas could ignite causing a fire.
This gas shut-off tool is made of a zinc-plated steel which is considered to be anti-sparking. However, be careful to check that the coating has not worn off.
